What information belongs in a U.S. DMCA notice?

U.S. copyright takedown notices require more than an accusation. A service provider needs enough information to identify the copyrighted work, find the alleged infringement and contact the authorized claimant.

What to do

  1. Identify the copyright owner or representative authorized to act for the owner.
  2. Describe the copyrighted work that you believe has been infringed, or a representative list when the rules allow it.
  3. Provide the exact URL or other identifying information that enables the provider to locate each complained-of use.
  4. Include valid claimant contact information and the required good-faith belief statement.
  5. Include the accuracy and authorization declaration required by U.S. copyright law.
  6. Provide a physical or electronic signature and use the provider's designated DMCA route or official reporting form.
  7. Retain a private copy of the submitted notice and any acknowledgment or counter-notice.
  8. If you do not own rights in the photo, review privacy and intimate-image reporting procedures instead of misrepresenting ownership.
This is U.S. copyright education, not legal advice or a ready-to-sign legal document. Knowingly false copyright representations can carry consequences.

Common questions

Does submitting a report guarantee removal?

No. Each platform assesses its own policies, and a submitted report is not proof of removal.

Should I send the intimate file to Reclaim to start?

No. Begin with the public link when possible and avoid sharing unnecessary copies of sensitive media.
