Google still shows a deleted page or image: what now?

Google's Refresh Outdated Content process addresses search results whose source pages or images were removed or substantially changed. It does not remove content that remains live merely because someone wants it deleted.

What to do

  1. Open the original website URL and verify that the page is unavailable or the relevant content has substantially changed.
  2. Compare the current source page with the text or image still shown in Google Search.
  3. If the source is gone or materially altered, open Google's official Refresh Outdated Content guidance.
  4. Provide the matching search result or image link in the format requested by Google.
  5. Keep the request reference and check whether Google updates the result.
  6. If the content is still live and harmful, use the appropriate content-policy or legal removal process instead.
  7. Verify the hosting site and Google visibility separately, because updating a search result does not delete the underlying media.
Do not submit an outdated-content request for a still-live harmful page; use the appropriate content removal category instead.

Common questions

Does submitting a report guarantee removal?

No. Each platform assesses its own policies, and a submitted report is not proof of removal.

Should I send the intimate file to Reclaim to start?

No. Begin with the public link when possible and avoid sharing unnecessary copies of sensitive media.

Use a coordinated case

Reclaim keeps website removal, Google/search removal, deadlines, verification and monitoring separate so one successful step is not mistaken for complete removal.
